Located at Veolia’s Pôle de Stockage-Énergie (PSE) in Chatuzange-le-Goubet (Drôme), a WAGABOX® unit went into production on April 11.
Thanks to this innovation, the gas emitted naturally by landfilled waste is captured and transformed into biomethane, a clean, renewable energy source. This biomethane is then injected directly into GRDF’s distribution network to supply local homes and businesses.
The Chatuzange-le-Goubet site processes up to 150,00 tonnes of waste every year, and until now has been valorized in the form of electricity by cogeneration engines. The WAGABOX® unit complements these engines. With a treatment capacity of 600 m3/h of raw gas, the unit can produce up to 85,000 MMBtu (25 GWh) of renewable natural gas (RNG also called biomethane) per year, supplying around 3,500 homes and helping to avoid the emission of over 4,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent into the atmosphere every year.
