Decatur Hills and Waga Energy Celebrate Ribbon Cutting for RNG Facility in Indiana

Decatur Hills Landfill and Waga Energy celebrated the inauguration of their renewable natural gas (RNG) facility during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on October 21 in Greensburg, Indiana.

Decatur Hills Landfill and Waga Energy celebrated the inauguration of their biomethane facility during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on October 21 in Greensburg, Indiana, in the USA.

In operation since July 2026, the facility captures the gas naturally released by decomposing waste at the Decatur Hills Landfill, previously flared, and upgrades it into RNG for the local community. At full capacity, it can process up to 1,000 standard cubic feet per minute of landfill gas and produce approximately 55 GWh of biomethane per year.

By displacing fossil natural gas, the facility is expected to avoid more than 15,800 metric tons of CO₂-equivalent emissions annually, the same amount of CO₂ emitted by consuming roughly 1.4 million gallons of diesel fuel.¹

The biomethane is injected into the CenterPoint local natural gas distribution network through a nearly 4-km interconnection financed by Waga Energy and Decatur Hills Landfill, and is sold to U.S. Energy for delivery to end markets.

Developed under a long-term partnership, the project was financed and built by Waga Energy, which will own and operate the facility for at least 20 years. Decatur Hills Landfill performed the site's development.

The ceremony brought together local and state officials, community members, and project partners to celebrate a project that supports renewable energy production, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and local economic development in Decatur County.

“We are proud to celebrate this milestone with Decatur Hills Landfill and U.S. Energy, two partners who share our long-term vision. By turning gas that was once flared into renewable energy delivered through the local grid, this project creates lasting value for Greensburg and its residents. It shows what strong local partnerships can achieve for the energy transition.”
