Avergies, Valorizon and Waga Energy join forces to produce RNG in Southwestern France

12 December 2024

As part of an environmental project, Valorizon and Avergies have chosen Waga Energy to recover biogas from the Albié non-hazardous landfill in Monflanquin (Southwestern France).

The future WAGABOX® unit will produce around 43 200 GJ of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) per year, equivalent to the energy consumption of 3,000 households. Scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025, the unit will help avoid the emission of 2,400 tonnes of CO2 per year by replacing fossil natural gas with biomethane. The gas produced will be injected directly into GRDF’s distribution network to supply homes and businesses.

The Monflanquin site, which processes almost 30,000 tonnes of waste every year, is mobilizing local and regional stakeholders to maximize biogas capture and thus reduce its impact on the climate. Waga Energy has collaborated with Valorizon to optimize the biogas capture network, which was previously flared. Thanks to the WAGABOX® unit, this biogas will now be transformed into biomethane, providing a clean, local, transportable and renewable source of energy for the region.

“The partnership with Waga Energy is a real step forward for our project and for the region. Thanks to its cutting-edge technology, responsiveness and recognized expertise, we were able to design an innovative and sustainable solution. The project represents not only a profitable economic opportunity, but also a contribution to the local energy transition. Once again, we are proud to be able to implement an environmentally-friendly approach to supply locally-produced green gas for the benefit of the inhabitants and businesses of Lot-et-Garonne.”

Pascal de Sermet, Chairman and CEO of SEM Avergies

“This project marks an important stage in the development of the Albié Landfill, with the aim of improving the quality of treatment and the environmental footprint of our activity, while reducing pollution by better capturing gas emissions. The partnership with Avergies enables Valorizon to make this investment with limited impact on the organization investment budget, while at the same time benefiting from part of the future revenue from biogas upgrade.”

Ludovic Biasotto, Chairman of Valorizon

“We are delighted to be working with Valorizon and Avergies, local players committed to renewable energy. With this new project, we are working together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat global warming. Thanks to the commitment of our partners and the WAGABOX® technology, the Monflanquin Landfill has become a RNG producer, supplying the region with local, low-carbon energy.”

Mathieu Lefebvre, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Waga Energy
