This thirteen-year contract is the longest BPA signed to date in France and marks a significant step forward in the development of local, low-carbon energies.<\/p>\n<p>Since March 2022, Waga Energy has been upgrading the landfill gas produced on Veolia\u2019s site into RNG, which is directly injected into the local gas network to be used by homes and businesses in the region. Previously, the RNG was sold to Engie under a feed-in tariff subsidized by the French government.<\/p>\n<p>The new contract, which came into effect on May 1, 2024, values the biomethane at a higher price than the subsidized tariff. This enables Waga Energy to secure financing for the production unit through a long-term credit facility with the banks CIC and Ark\u00e9a Banque Entreprises et Institutionnels.<\/p>\n<p>This agreement enables Engie to market unsubsidized biomethane to its customers, offering a unique opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to reducing the environmental impact of their activities and the carbon footprint of their products. The green value of this renewable gas is enhanced by the resale of Guarantees of Origin (GOs) and Proof of Sustainability (PoS) certificates issued as part of ISCC\u00b9 certification.<\/p>\n<p>Veolia\u2019s site, one of the largest RNG production units in France, it produces up to 120 GWh of RNG each year, equivalent to the consumption of 20,000 households. Its commissioning avoids the emission of around 20,000 tons of CO2 eq, by reducing the use of natural fossil gas.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00b9The ISCC (International Sustainability &amp; Carbon Certification) label proves that a RNG production facility complies with the sustainability and greenhouse gas emission reduction criteria defined by the European RED II directive.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_2 et_pb_row et_flex_row et_animated post-text-row\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column_2 et_pb_column et-last-child et_flex_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough et_flex_column_24_24 et_flex_column_24_24_tablet et_flex_column_24_24_phone\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_cta_1 et_pb_promo et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_flex_module post-text\"><div class=\"et_pb_promo_description\"><div class=\"et_pb_promo_content\"><p><strong>Estelle Brachlianoff<\/strong>, <em>CEO of Veolia<\/em>:<br \/>\u201cVeolia is a key player in the production of bioenergy, already producing 1.6 terawatt-hour of biogas from waste anaerobic digestion in France alone. Through this partnership with Waga Energy and ENGIE, we are contributing to the development of a genuine green gas production industry at the European level, essential for the ecological transformation.
