Waga Energy is continuing its expansion in Spain with the signing of an agreement with FCC Medio Ambiente for a new Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production project in Alhendín, Andalusia.
As part of this project, Waga Energy will finance, build, and operate a landfill gas recovery unit based on its patented WAGABOX® technology. The facility will convert biogas captured at the landfill into RNG, a renewable natural gas that will be injected directly into the local gas grid.
288,000 GJ of RNG Per Year
The plant will be capable of processing up to 2,400 m³/h of biogas and producing 80 GWh of RNG annually, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of approximately 16,000 Spanish households.
Once operational, the facility is expected to avoid around 19,000 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions per year by replacing fossil natural gas with renewable gas produced from waste. The project highlights the potential of RNG to combine waste recovery, renewable energy production, and decarburization.
